Ahead of the show’s release later this month, we have a new trailer that gives us some new information about what’s going on in Obi-Wan’s latest adventure. Before we unpack all the teases and easter eggs, have a watch if you haven’t already: Okay, there’s quite a bit to talk about:

Darth Vader

While the first teaser only featured the ominous sound of Vader’s breathing, this new trailer finally shows us the iconic villain in the flesh…or what’s left of it, anyway. We watch as one of his cybernetic arms is screwed back into his body. It’s pretty gross, the kind of unexpected body horror you generally don’t expect from Star Wars. We also watch as Vader’s signature chest piece is re-installed. The way those very long pins are thrust into his torso sure looks painful…

4-LOM (and Zuckuss?)

Obi-Wan is not only being hunted by the entire Empire, the Inquisitors, and his former apprentice. He’s also being shot at by bounty hunters! We even get a look at the actual bounty, and it’s nice to see Revenge of the Sith Obi-Wan again. One of the scum trying to take out Obi-Wan is 4-LOM, the bug-eyed bounty hunter with the protocol droid body. He was first introduced in The Empire Strikes Back as one of the mercenaries hired by Darth Vader to hunt down Han Solo and the Millennium Falcon. You’ll spot 4-LOM second on the right in the famous bounty hunter lineup scene (above) in Empire. While 4-LOM only appeared once on the Original Trilogy, he’s gone on to have many other adventures in the pages of the books and comics. You can currently read about him in Marvel’s Bounty Hunters comic book series, in which he frequently appears. The trailer teases that 4-LOM didn’t come alone. The shot of the droid shuffling into battle guns blazing on a rooftop quickly cuts to another POV of the fight. This time we see Obi-Wan shooting back at a figure that we can’t quite make out. You might just assume this is 4-LOM, except that this mystery second attacker is shooting yellow laser bolts at Obi-Wan, while in the previous shot 4-LOM shoots red lasers. Also, this second figure just looks a big more flexible and humanoid than the stiff protocol droid. So who exactly is shooting at Obi-Wan here?

Purge Troopers and a Battle on Fortress Inquisitorius

Obi-Wan Kenobi will introduce a new kind of stormtrooper to live-action. Here’s your first look at the Purge Troopers, an elite Imperial unit trained to hunt down Jedi. They serve both Lord Vader and the Inquisitors. They made their debut in Marvel’s Darth Vader #13 (2017) and have since appeared in the Jedi: Fallen Order video game as one of the many enemies hunting Cal Kestis. Here’s another angle on the Purge Troopers, who have blasters at the ready. This shot may have something to do with… …this firefight that breaks out on Fortress Inquisitorius, the Inquisitors’ home base on the water moon of Nur. But who exactly is shooting at Reva here? Opening fire on the Inquisitors on their home turf seems like a really bad idea…

Obi-Wan, Uncle Owen, and Luke’s Future

We don’t get any new Luke Skywalker footage in this trailer, but for those who missed it the first time around, here is Grant Feely playing a 10-year-old Luke. Obi-Wan watches as the Jedi’s last hope plays on the Lars homestead, years before he’ll be called upon to fulfill his destiny. It’s revealed in this trailer that Obi-Wan hopes to one day train Luke in the ways of the Force, but Uncle Own (Joel Edgerton reprising his role from the Prequels) has other ideas. Hello, 911? I’d like to report a murder.

Reva, aka The Third Sister

There’s almost as much Reva in this trailer as there is Obi-Wan. Moses Ingram’s Third Sister is hellbent on taking down the Jedi Master, and throughout the video we see how her mission may be turning into obsession. Above, you can see a very cool shot of Reva walking around Fortress Inquisitorius. It’s suggested in the trailer that Reva may be the one who put the bounty on Obi-Wan’s head, using 4-LOM and Zuckuss as bait to lure out the Jedi: “I want every bounty hunter and low life to squeeze him,” she says in a voiceover. At another point in the trailer, we hear a conversation between Reva and another character (possibly the Fifth Brother, played by Sung Kang) about finding Obi-Wan: “You still want Kenobi?” asks the Fifth Brother. “He’s gone.” Later, we hear Reva yelling, “You can’t win, Obi-Wan. You can’t escape him.” We know exactly who she’s talking about…

Daiyu

The fight between Obi-Wan, Reva, and the bounty hunters is all happening on a new planet called Daiyu. The design of this particular city was inspired by Hong Kong, according to Obi-Wan Kenobi writer Joby Harold. It’s also worth noting that this looks a lot like the neon-drenched aesthetic that was allegedly being planned for Star Wars Underworld, the live-action TV series that was in the works before George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney. As you’d expect from the title, the show would have explored the criminal underbelly of the galaxy far, far away, as well as brought back movie characters like Boba Fett and Han Solo, presumably in the years before A New Hope. In 2020, a video alleging to include proof-of-concept test footage of the show leaked online: Doesn’t that look a bit like the general look of Daiyu? This definitely wouldn’t be the first time Lucasfilm has dusted off an unused concept from the pre-Disney days for a new project. “We haven’t seen this exact thing in Star Wars yet,” Nanjiani said about his character in an interview with Rolling Stone last year. “This is like a new version of a type of Star Wars character we’ve seen before.” Well, that could really mean anything.

The Grand Inquisitor, the Fourth Sister, and the Fifth Brother

Rupert Friend’s Grand Inquisitor was the subject of much debate when the first teaser dropped a few weeks back. Some Star Wars fans felt he didn’t quite live up to the original design of the Pau’ans introduced in Revenge of the Sith. The smaller head and lighter makeup just isn’t doing it for some people. But the villain sure looks intimidating when walking through the streets of this Tatooine town. This shot also gives us another look at the Fifth Brother, another baddie who was introduced on the animated series Rebels, just like the Grand Inquisitor. And here’s a shot of the Fifth Brother from the back. As you can see, he carries the preferred weapon of the Inquisitors: a double-bladed spinning lightsaber that works a lot like a helicopter rotor, and can even behead you like one! We watch as three of the four central Inquisitors examine a map of a planet. Are they coming up with their plan of attack to catch Obi-Wan?

New Droid Friends?

There are a lot of new characters in this trailer, and we’re not done yet. We get a first look at two new droids featured in the series. Above you can see some kind of battle droid shooting at stormtroopers in a cave. I’m going to assume this guy’s on Obi-Wan’s side. There’s also this little droid buddy, which seems to have ears and be highly emotive. If you look hard enough, there are plenty of rumors floating around online about the hand holding this droid. Search at your own risk!

Probe Droid Pods?

We thought these pods being fired out of Fortress Inquisitorius were actually escape pods from a ship, but now it seems more likely these pods are carrying probe droids being sent out to find Jedi for the Inquisitors to hunt down. Why probe droids specifically?

Obi-Wan’s Got a Gun (and His Fists)

Well, in the background of this shot, you can see a fallen probe droid, dead in the sands of Tatooine. It looks like it found Obi-Wan, which immediately thrusts the old Jedi into trouble.
And when a blaster won’t do, Obi-Wan still has his fists. Here we see the Jedi Master in hand-to-hand combat with a couple of attackers, including a Zabrak who’s just, like, casually wearing a sweater. What did you think of the trailer?
